GP insurance reports best practice guide

The BMA has released guidance for GPs detailing best practice on providing reports for insurance companies.

The guidance, drawn up with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and available on the BMA website, includes a covering letter, standard form and consent declaration form for patients.

But the two associations are still at loggerheads over the ABI's standard GP report form which is widely used.

In the guidance, the BMA said it still has concerns over the inclusion of questions about a patient's lifestyle and family history and the validity of consent for its completion.
