GP orchestrates musicians' care

Dr Christine Hunter has developed a special interest in the health of musicians as the on-call GP for the Ulster Orchestra.

Dr Hunter, a GP in Belfast, said the majority of the musicians' complaints involved musculoskeletal problems or psychological conditions such as performance anxiety.

'They are a lot like athletes,' she said. 'They have often tried a lot of remedies before so it's quite a challenge advising them on techniques to get back their general fitness and ability to perform.'

One of her suggested remedies for muscle problems is shadow-playing.
