GP pilots new aid on appraisals

Dr Agnelo Fernandes has piloted an online system that cuts the time GPs need to spend preparing for their appraisal.

The Government-funded system found at provides basic information about the appraisal for both appraisees and appraisers.

GPs can also get a personal login and electronically fill in all of the documentation needed for their appraisal.

Appraisal statements and personal development plans are automatically generated from the information GPs provide.

Dr Fernandes, a GP in south London, said the toolkit made appraisal more comprehensible.

'It saves time and effort. Starting with blank forms takes a lot longer than a tool which prompts you,' he added.
