GP premises to get cash boost

GPs have been left 'horrified' after a group of PCTs unveiled plans to restrict discretionary payments for locum cover while GPs are on long-term sick leave.

The proposals by six PCTs in Berkshire include paying only half the maximum weekly allowance of £988 for the first six weeks that cover is needed and three quarters thereafter.

Dr Paul Roblin, Berkshire LMC secretary, said the decision would 'make GPs sick – we are horrified'.
