GP quality pay will improve CHD care

Dr John Pittard has welcomed the quality and outcomes framework as a huge incentive

to improve care for major diseases.

Dr Pittard, a member of the external reference group for the CHD national service framework, said the incentives offered for achieving quality points would act as a lever to improve secondary prevention of CHD and boost prescribing.

Dr Pittard, a GP in Staines, Middlesex, said: 'If we can get the money attached it will certainly help.

'The challenge will be getting primary care to bolt on primary prevention.'
