GP rises to car plant closure challenge

When Rover's Longbridge plant was shut down in April last year, the local community was rocked.

But Dr Margaret Keighley, who has practised from the nearby Cofton Medical Centre for 30 years, was on hand to provide help for those affected by the closure.

Her contribution was such that she received an MBE in this year's New Years Honours for the invaluable support she had provided for the community.

She said: 'I've seen lots of ups and downs from the car factory, but they are really stoical and they helped each other through the stress and turbulence too.

'I've had lots of patients coming up to me since I was awarded the MBE saying how delighted they were for me, which has been lovely.'
