GP sets up safe zone to counter violence

Dr Frances Dudley has helped set up a 'safe haven' surgery where GPs can safely see patients known to be violent.

The surgery, based at a GP co-operative site in south London, is open to all GPs in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.

'The perception is that the inner city has more incidents because there are more people with mental health problems and more drug abuse,' said Dr Dudley, a GP in Lambeth.

'But violent patients are a problem for every GP, whether rural or inner city.'

The safe haven site was set up as a partnership between the LMC and out-of-hours co-op Seldoc.
