GP warns diabetics on renal disease

Dr Vasu Siva has written a leaflet for diabetes patients to stress the importance of having an annual urine test to prevent renal disease.

Dr Siva, a GP in Perivale, Middlesex, made the move after her practice audit found a third of diabetics had no urine creatinine ratio recorded.

'People with diabetes know about heart disease and the risk to their eyes but not so much about kidneys,' Dr Siva said.

'If we can catch it early we can delay the progression.'
