GPC close to funding deal on GP appraisals

GPC negotiators are close to winning a national funding agreement for appraisals in England as part of the

contract.

A deal for England would mirror the scheme in Scotland, where both appraisers and

appraisees are paid £315.

Some trusts in England have refused to pay GPs for the scheme this year because the Government failed to give them extra funding.

Where schemes have been funded, payments have been low as £120, while other GPs have been forced to use their protected learning time.

GPC negotiator Dr Laurence Buckman said there was an agreement in principle with the NHS Confederation, but talks were continuing on 'how to make it stick'.

He added: 'I'm reasonably confident, but that's not the same as a guarantee.'
