GPs can excel without the private sector

I am concerned that your article on privatisation implies you get the expertise to change practices and deliver excellent services only through the involvement of private providers.

This is simply not the case. We took over a failing practice in Peckham, south London, 18 months ago and, with the help of our patients, have turned it around, achieving 100% in the QOF, 91% cervical smear rates, the highest four-week smoking cessation rates in the locality, and flu vaccination rates above the national average - in one of the most deprived areas in Britain.

This is not about blowing our own trumpets, but don't you think it's time to explode the myth that 'bog-standard' NHS GPs cannot deliver care to the highest standards - and stop the politicians thinking that private is good, NHS is bad?
