GPs condemn minister's plan for 24-hour access

GP leaders have condemned a plan to ensure all Welsh practices offer 24-hour access to a GP within four years.

GPC Wales chair Dr Andrew Dearden said the target announced by Welsh Assembly health minister Jane Hutt was unrealistic and would lead to 'extra strain and work'.

He added: 'The politicians set

targets for others, usually to improve things or to look good. It might be nice that with the right to set targets, they also assumed the responsibility for helping to achieve them.'
