GPs halve drug misusers' wait for treatment

GPs involved in the care of drug misusers have achieved a significant cut in the time patients have to wait to start treatment, official figures show.

The length of wait for GP treatment of a drug problem has fallen from 5.6 weeks two years ago to just 2.5 weeks now well below the five-week target set by the Government's National Treatment Agency.

Overall waiting times for patients referred for drug treatment have dropped by two-thirds since 2001.
