GPs launch website on genetic conditions

GPs in the north east have launched a new website full of information on genetic conditions to help fellow doctors and other primary care staff in the region.

The Northern Primary Care Genetics website was put together by GPs Dr Kate Cushing and Dr Kathy Greenhough. It contains guides to common genetic conditions, familial cancer and high serum lipids along with information on preconception counselling and pregnancy and newborn screening.

There are also a series of patient leaflets on various genetic abnormalities.

Dr Cushing, who has a PhD in genetics, told Pulse she was hoping to expand the resources on the site and welcomed feedback from GPs in the north east and other areas of the UK on areas to cover.
