GPs lose hope on IT ownership

GPs will have to accept they will lose ownership of their IT systems, despite their concerns over patient confidentiality, GPC negotiator Dr Laurence Buckman says.

Speaking against a motion at the special LMC conference instructing the GPC to renegotiate the IT aspects of the contract, Dr Buckman said he had sympathy with GPs' arguments but the policy had been set by Number 10 and renegotiation was 'not on offer'.

Dr Simon Bradley, director of Avon LMC, said the Integrated Care Record System 'is to become the single, centralised, cradle to grave, medical record of every man, woman and child in the country and is a major threat to confidentiality'.
