GP's rare doctorate

Dr Nick Summerton is one of only a handful of GPs to gain a doctorate in primary care medicine from the University of Oxford.

Dr Summerton, a GP in Winterton, Lincolnshire, spent six years researching GP diagnosis of cancer, CHD and carpal tunnel syndrome.

'I wanted to work out the symptoms that matter most ­ to separate the wheat from the chaff,' he said.
