GPs 'should link with libraries'

Former health minister Andy Burnham has called for GP practices to be collocated with libraries, to free up more funds for local authorities.

The move by the now Culture Secretary will be the subject of a six month review by the Government and could spark yet another premises shake up for GP surgeries as councils and PCTs look to share resources amid the current economic gloom.

Mr Burnham said libraries being located alongside GP surgeries was one option, along with other facilities such as swimming pools.
