GPs to get diabetes risk charts

Diabetes UK has launched a 'race against risk' chart that it hopes will help GPs and practice nurses achieve points for diabetes in the quality framework.

The risk chart has a practical checklist for ticking off boxes in the quality framework and the reverse has a diagram and explanatory notes to aid patients' education and understanding of their condition.

There are 99 points available for diabetes in the quality framework.

Dr Stephen Lawrence, a GP in Chatham, Kent, and a clinical assistant in diabetes at Medway Maritime Hospital, said patient education over their condition was vital.

'Understanding the benefits of medication and healthy lifestyle is essential to empowering patients with both types of diabetes,' he added.
