GPSIs in paediatrics sought

The Scottish Executive is promoting the development of GPs with a special interest in paediatrics to improve access to emergency care for children and young people.

The call for GPs, particularly in remote and rural areas, to take up the role comes in an emergency care framework, designed to improve urgent care for children and young people in hospital and the community.

In many remote and rural areas of Scotland it is not logistically possible to provide a fully staffed paediatric emergency department.
