Grave error over child vaccine pay

GPs almost universally blame the Government for the introduction of the new vaccine pay rule, accusing ministers of using it to claw back money over-spent on the contract.

An overwhelming 84 per cent of GPs surveyed blamed the Department of Health for the situation.

But 48 per cent also thought the GPC had let them down and must share the blame.

Dr David Mitchell, a GP in Leeds, said he thought the department was using the calculation to retrieve funds. 'I would not be surprised if this was a cynical way to claw back money they have overspent on the QOF contract,' he said.

Dr Tom Frewin, a GP in Bristol, said: 'The whole thing is designed to make people fail. The Government is trying to save money.'

He added: 'There's a huge difference between delivering a service to asking people five times and driving to their houses. To my mind, GPs shouldn't be doing that.'
