GSK disputes initial Cochrane findings

We are writing in response to a Pulse article on an unpublished Cochrane review: ‘Combination fluticasone and salmeterol versus fixed dose combination budesonide and formoterol for chronic asthma in adults and children.

The article (News, 23 January) contains conclusions from an unpublished review which subsequently was revealed to be based on incomplete data.

The Cochrane authors have agreed that their information is incomplete and have not published these data.

GSK is working to make sure that the authors have complete data. The authors are reviewing all these data with a view to revising their conclusions.

The initial conclusions of this review, as published in Pulse magazine, are therefore incorrect and could be misleading to physicians.

The contents of the Pulse article should not be used by physicians to change their prescribing or communicated in a way that may cause alarm to patients.
