Health minister: a great opportunity for ambitious GPs to expand their services

From Norman Warner

Health minister

We have no plans to set up 1,200 private practices, nor is there any target for a percentage of GP services to pass into private hands (News, 9 March).

Our recent White Paper clearly sets out proposals on new providers.

We will encourage new providers to offer services to patients alongside traditional GPs where this improves

access.

It is critically important

that we bring additional primary care services into

areas of disadvantage with

the greatest health inequalities.

As well as ensuring all patients benefit from good access to a GP wherever they live, our plans offer a great opportunity for ambitious GPs to expand their services.

It is an opportunity GPs across the country are already embracing.
