Heart tsar's sympathy for GP workload

Heart tsar Dr Roger Boyle has launched a new framework to help GPs with the massive burden of implementing the CHD national service framework.

At the launch of the framework, which aims to identify skills gaps and help doctors appraise their performance, Dr Boyle said: 'Around 90 per cent of interactions for CHD occur in primary care.'

He added: 'It's time we gave that a real emphasis and supported the primary care programme.'

But GPs said they were unlikely to have time to read yet another document.

Dr John Ashcroft, CHD lead for Erewash PCT, said: 'It's something that will be forgotten about and never actually read.'
