11.00 Ward round at the nursing home

Dr Jonathan Harte prepares to head to a local care home in Nottingham

Tuesdays are nursing home ward round in the morning, a regular weekly round we instigated to try to reduce the daily visit requests from our local home.

It worked too, to an extent. The CCG have taken up the idea as a local enhanced service to support care homes better and improve communications with dedicated practices linked to each home, hopefully reducing inappropriate emergency admissions and referrals.

But before that there’s just time to fit in an emergency patient, and do a few phone call consultations. Call back requests are a “hidden” workload for many practices, including ours as they’re not always counted as patient contacts and so don’t have dedicated slots in our practice. I know some practices do.
