Why GPs should vote UKIP

UKIP will invest an extra £3bn in the NHS – not for salaries, but to train and finance more GPs and nurses to help with the workload. The party will raise this money from cuts to overseas aid and EU budgets. We will invest an extra £130m per year in dementia care (double what the Tories are promising) and an extra £1bn in elderly social care.

UKIP will prevent new migrants from accessing the NHS for five years and insist they hold private health insurance to ease demand on NHS services. In 2012, the Tories allowed anyone in the UK to sign up with a GP, even US tourists. For too long we have been an international health service and a government report in October 2013 suggested that £2bn a year is being wasted on ‘health tourism’. This policy would also improve GPs’ private income.

We will reintroduce SEN status for nurses who want just to nurse patients, scrap tuition fees for medical students and abolish hospital parking charges, which are costing patients £200m a year.

UKIP will oppose the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, the EU/US trade treaty that could permit giant US health firms to compete for any NHS service.

We will end the expensive farce of appraisal and revalidation and will abolish the CQC, handing over NHS inspections to locally elected health boards.
