4. Dr Sarah Wollaston

MP and chair of the House of Commons Health Committee

This outspoken former GP has made her mark on the House of Commons by securing the position of chair of the influential cross-party health committee.

Her outspoken stance on the Government’s public health policies has propelled her into the media spotlight. And her instincts are good.

She has called for an expanded GP workforce this year and argued the Government’s focus on reducing unplanned admissions - which includes rolling out the new unplanned admissions DES – does not address the underlying issues with acute care.

Her position puts the Tory MP in the position of being able to ‘fundamentally and almost single-handedly sort out the NHS’, according to our panel.

If her past record is anything to go with she could well be a force to be reckoned with as the polictical parties fight over the NHS in the next general election.
