QOF point value to rise by 3.6% from April

The value of a QOF point will increase from April by 3.6% from £165.18 to £171.20.

This comes as a result of the 2017/18 GP contract deal which concluded the value of a QOF point would increase in line with the contractor population index (CPI), or growth in average GP practice list size.

The average practice list size rose from 7,460 as at 1 January 2016 to 7,732 at 1 January 2017.

Unless these adjustments are made year on year, patient inflation would mean that work related to QOF would automatically become worth less to practices.

This happened in 2014, when Pulse exclusively revealed that NHS England would not be increasing the QOF point value for that financial year, meaning practices lost thousands of pounds, but the GPC has successfully negotiated increases since.

Before then, the value of a QOF point had not been subject to negotiation but instead been increased automatically.
