Housing note? Just say No

I refer to Dr Lucy Free's article 'An unfair complaint and the stress it has caused' (Features, February 17) in which a patient complained because Dr Free didn't do enough to facilitate her being given her own accommodation.

If I had seen that patient in Brighton the same complaint would have been made against me.

Some LMC areas have got away from doing housing notes almost completely, and I now hardly ever get asked for them. But we have only acheived this because all the local GPs in our area have stuck together and followed a consistent policy in refusing them. We have also greatly reduced attendances with toothache by consistently referrring patients to dentists and not attempting to treat them.
