How do limited liability partnerships differ from traditional partnerships?

We have been approached by a commercial company to join with them in a limited liability partnership for the provision of services outside of our normal GMS contract and not connected with anything to do with Practice Based Commissioning. It will involve our practice having to join with four other GP practices in the area in this limited liability partnership. I am unsure as to what the limited liability partnership is, and why this is different from our traditional partnership model.
