How medicolegal reports can prove to be a nightmare

From Dr Richard Potter

Congleton

Medicolegal agencies are a nightmare and a scam on the proper working relationship between professionals.

They are either interposed between the solicitors and the doctors and hike the cost of the medical report and rip off the doctor, or they are the originators of the work instructing both and screw down the fees of both to maximise their profits.

They are an unnecessary and parasitic lot which is recognised by the insurance companies, but even they are having difficulty starving them out of existence!

I spend a day a week on this work. I believe a quality generalist expert medical report in a standard whiplash case should command a fee of £195-£225 payable on completion of the case or at 12 months, whichever is the sooner.

If doctors are really tempted to do the occasional report for £75 I believe they are selling themselves short.
