How the Government got its way

Dr Phil Townsend's practice has been saved after his PCT finally gave the go-ahead for it to move to new premises 14 years after the GPs first raised the idea.

Dr Townsend said their 1970s premises in Kippax, West Yorkshire, had become increasingly vandalised after it began to show signs of decay.

'We felt it was never going to happen,' he said. 'There were at least two of us, if not more, who said that if we didn't get a new build we'd look elsewhere.'

The practice is a joint-tenant with East Leeds PCT of the new £1.5 million building.
