How to weed out the lead-swingers

There will always be a number of patients who seem to be swinging the lead when it comes to sicknotes. This could include the man with lumbago tiling a roof, or the claustrophobic receiving holiday inoculations before flying to Australia (both true).

There is a simple but rewarding remedy. Send in a RM7 to the DSS. On receipt of the IB113-DLS, ensure that all negative investigations, drug compliances and DNAs are recorded, together with any 'I will be grateful for your opinion in this matter' requests. There is also the DSS fraud hotline on 0800 854440 that is a willing accepter of any useful information.

In this way the frustrations of issuing 'inappropriate' sicknotes can be abated with some pro-active management.
