Hundreds of GPs seeking active service

Hundreds of GPs have contacted the Royal Air Force in connection with a scheme offering £50,000 'golden hello' payments.

The RAF confirmed 341 GPs had called its recruitment hotline.

Sixty-four had met the criteria and 35 application packs had been sent out.

All three branches of the armed forces are offering salaries of up to £94,000 in addition to the one-off upfront payment to help make up a 'critical' shortfall of medical personnel ahead of a possible war with Iraq.
