I am petitioning Downing Street on nurse prescribing

I read with interest your front-page article ‘Huge explosion in nurse prescribing' (News, 23 August).

I was quite alarmed by your findings. I did not realise quite how many nurses could now prescribe such a wide range of medicines, many of which have very specialised indications and potentially severe side-effects.

I was so concerned about this news that I was motivated to put forward a petition to the No 10 Downing Street website calling for a restriction of nurse prescribing, which was accepted.

Go to petitions.pm.gov.uk, then search for ‘saferprescribing'.

I wonder if this petition is something your readers would be interested in? I know that many doctors are concerned about this issue.
