IT ownership to be clarified

The new contract does not spell out whether GPs or their primary care organisation will own practices' computer systems, the GPC has admitted.

A summary of the contract says the issue is 'still to be clarified'. The contract stipulates that trusts will have to pay 100 per cent of all IT costs from April 1, 2003.

The GPC has promised that existing IT systems will be able to cope with the quality framework and training would be funded.
