It's the last rites for independent status for GPs

From Dr Robert Morley, Birmingham

Chapter 3 of the White Paper spells out the last rites of independent contractor general practice.

We are going to have a 'national procurement process' for GP services with criteria for accreditation as a 'primary care provider'.

Basically this means having a permanently open list, an unlimited practice area and a surgery that is open all hours not the Ronnie Barker model but a Sainsbury's or rather United Health one.

The playing field is going to be about as level as the north face of the Eiger.
