Dr Jiva, who already works at a surgery based in one branch of the supermarket, knows a good deal when he sees one. He said of plans to offer GPs rent-free premises: ‘It's a cost-zero exercise – a great opportunity for practices to get another venue and learn new management skills.'

The Sainsbury's special offer appealed to some GPs, but went down like a Turkey Twizzler with others. They should ‘stick to selling fruit and vegetables', was Dr Clare Gerada's response for the RCGP.
