Leaflet? Try this podcast instead

Dr Richard Walters is to offer his patients' podcasts as an alternative to medical advice leaflets.

The downloads, which can be viewed on an MP3 player or a computer, will be available from the Builth and Llanwrtyd medical practice's newly revamped website.

A video demonstrating how to use an asthma inhaler will be the first to appear. A cervical screening podcast is also planned.

Dr Walters said: 'People respond to information where they know and trust the source. We are also now thinking about having an interview online with GPs when the flu vaccine campaign comes out, explaining the pros and cons.'

The project has been boosted by the town's good broadband connections. The practice plans to show the films in the surgery for patients without internet access.

Dr Walters said: 'Online repeat prescriptions save people coming into the surgery and I think it's the same with the podcasts. It allows people to use the services better.'
