Let's practise in...Leicester

Where? In the East Midlands. Accessible from the London to Leeds M1 and the M69.

And? Leicester is the 10th largest city in Britain and dates back to Roman times. There is a good mix of ancient and modern architecture throughout the city.

Work? 45 practices to serve a population of 279,923.

Homes? The average price for a home in Leicester is £157,011. A four-bedroomed detached house will be closer to £210,000.

Schools? Academically, this LEA falls considerably behind the national average. However, there are a number of good independent schools, including Leicester Montessori Grammar School that achieved 100 per cent GCSE pass rate in 2005.

Leisure? Lots of days out. These include a visit to the National Space Centre (pictured), walking and cycling tours around the National Forest and a trip to one of the nine museums in

the city. The Phoenix Arts centre is a popular live music venue.

Famous Residents? Health and fitness expert Rosemary Conley, Adrian Mole author Sue Townsend and Gary Lineker.

Anything Else? Leicester was once home to Joseph Carey Merrick (aka The Elephant Man), who has a memorial in the city centre.
