Let's start with car-sharing for outpatients

As the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference approaches, it is surely time for individuals to think about what they can do personally to reduce emissions.

We have set up a really simple local car-sharing scheme for outpatient appointments and visits to Ipswich Hospital, which if extended nationally could save more than £500m in petrol. We have pragmatic incentives like cheaper and guaranteed parking along with a free coffee or tea if you have to wait for your car-sharer. If we start with saving money and helping people then the environmental benefits will follow - better than clouds and acid rain!

Any of your readers with plans to go to Ipswich Hospital for a visit or an appointment can use the scheme - go to www.hospitalrides.co.uk. Suffolk libraries (including mobile ones) have agreed to help those without computers to access the site.
