Dr David Lloyd is planning to take full advantage of the Government's drive to foster interest in new Alternative Primary Medical Services contracts.

Dr Lloyd, a GP in west London, said Harmoni, the out-of-hours organisation of which he is a medical director, had already launched bids for APMS contracts offered by Ealing PCT and was preparing to launch bids for services in nearby Hertfordshire.

The recent Government announcement that PCTs must stop directly providing services would provide even more APMS opportunities. Dr Lloyd added: 'Suddenly there's an awareness that the removal of the monopoly of GPs is starting. Any time a job comes up we will go for it.'
