Levelling the playing field

Dr Peter Brindle, whose work underpins the new risk tool, believes it will 'level the playing field' for deprived groups.

Dr Brindle, head of research strategy at Bristol PCT and a GP in the city, told Pulse: 'It will make the Framingham score rather more equitable than it is now, giving the option to treat to a greater number of less affluent people.'

But Dr Brindle, a member of the SIGN risk estimation sub-group and the leading NICE expert on risk assessment, said the changes would have to be properly resourced.
