LMCs conference: Call to ringfence premises cash

By Gareth Iacobucci

LMCs unanimously backed a motion calling on PCTs to ring-fence funds for expanding existing GP premises

GPs criticised the Government for ‘continuing failure to provide adequate resources for general practice', and urged PCTs to safeguard funds set aside for developing premises.

The motion said that a failure to invest would ‘compromise any attempts to increase locally provided patient care in a GP setting.'

It urged that PCT funds for premises investment should be ring-fenced, ‘to prevent their misuse in reducing other local health economy deficits'.

John Doyle, a GP in Redhill, and a member of Surrey LMC, said moves to divert funds to ‘unproven initiatives' like polyclinics ‘need to be challenged'.
