LMCs conference: LMCs dismiss call to ban Celts

By Gareth Iacobucci

Moves to exclude non-English GPs from taking part in debates on English general practice have been thrown out by LMCs.

A proposed motion at the LMC conference said Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish representatives should not be permitted to participate in debates affecting only English LMCs.

But GPs rejected the motion, with conference chair Dr Fay Wilson saying that the call was ‘ungracious' and ‘not helpful'.

Dr David Ross, an LMC representative from NI Eastern, was also quick to shoot down the proposal. He said: ‘The motion is divisive. At a UK conference, all delegates should be free to speak on any subject.'
