Patients don't know what's good for them

22 Oct 2009

I’ve seen the future. We’ll have to compete for patients if we are going to maintain our income. PCT’s have even been ordered to encourage patients to shop around and switch from GP to GP.

I think we can all see the future of general practice. Government giving more rights to patients. Not all patients are educated enough. Nowadays patients trust more in ct/mri scan than in doctors. Why? On one side Government is crying for funding and on the other side making kiddy decisions to waste money. I think they need more sensible people in governemnt. I think 50% of british population is already on benefits and these are the people who do only 3 things - drink heavily, smoke, and sex. They have to become ill to carry on with their benefits. Don't judge me from my views, it's true. We hardly see anybody who is working and coming to see us.
I think we should start thinking like a good citizen as well rather than a robot of PCTs or Government. Local medical committees should do something to control or challenge Government. It's not necessory that a person sitting on high rank will always make the right decision. We should wake up and not lose our self respect. I am glad that PulseToday published this article. Thanks a lot. manmohan singh

Nice reply Manhoman. What this country needs is more sensible, reasoned views like yours and we'll have everything sorted in a jiffy! Jon

Hold on a minute! If we didn't keep patients on the sick, then they'd be unemployed and wreck the government's statistics. And that would never do in the run-up to an election. If someone is unemployed it is the government's fault for not stimulating the economy and creating jobs - but if we sign them off sick they can blame GPs for pandering to patients and preventing them from going back to the work which does not exist!!!
