If a red flag is akin to a screening test, then it should meet appropriate criteria, as described at:

Mmm. I'm a retired gynaecologist whose mother died of ovarian ca. I have to say symptoms were downgraded by GPs for a little too long. From my day job I knew all the stuff about crap screening etc.. but I think I knew enough about patient contact to detect the "real" symptoms, (the one great GP claim to fame). I rather hope that cynicism doesn't lead those who read this original post to laugh unrestrained about difficult patients' symptoms. Roger Callender
