Some patients seem to fantasize that us overpaid physicians are so obsessed by our own medical state that we arrange hundreds of tests and investigations on ourselves. Logically, they then want "equality"-if these lazy lot all get weekly MRIs then so should I ! How do we address these odd ideas?? Explain the truth-I find that there isn't the time for the weekly MRIs as the Bentley needs servicing and the house servants need inspecting or I am relaxing quaffing Chateau Lafite.

I guess that doctors who recommend the higher-risk choice will be sued if it goes wrong. In theory, proper advice and documentation of the advice given should cover you; but is it worth the risk? Peter English
