Message in a bottle art boosts well-being

Dr James Beattie has secured more than £20,000 of funding from the Scottish Arts Council to prescribe art classes for his patients.

Dr Beattie, a GP in Inverurie, Grampian, pictured in front of a medically inspired art installation created by a patient, said the sessions would be aimed at those whose conditions were aggravated by stress, such as irritable bowel syndrome and migraine.

He said: 'The classes are in addition to conventional treatment, because I believe there is much more to health and well-being than medicine alone.'
