MI in COPD patients

A large proportion of patients with COPD suffer heart attacks that are never recognised by their doctors, say Norwegian researchers.

Their study looked at 897 COPD patients discharged after treatment for an exacerbation in hospital and analysed the ECG records from the date of admission.

They found 229 patients had ECG evidence of a previous myocardial infarction, but only a third of these had this referred to in their records.
