Mike O'Brien and Gillian Merron appointed as health ministers

By Steve Nowottny

Two new health ministers have been named at the Department of Health as the Government reshuffle continues.

Mike O'Brien, previously a minister at the Department for Energy and Climate Change, and Gillian Merron, a minister in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, have been appointed to replace outgoing ministers Ben Bradshaw and Dawn Primarolo.

On Friday, former health minister Andy Burnham returned to the department as the new health secretary. He replaces Alan Johnson, who is the new home secretary.

The Department of Health has confirmed that Mr O'Brien will take on Ben Bradshaw's responsibilities as minister for primary care.
