Anne Birkert ('Why I would not relish another computer switch', Letters, September 13) has indeed been completely misled about EMIS's position with the National Programme for IT (NPfIT).

EMIS is already 'talking to' the NPfIT

and we are actively supporting a number of pilot projects on a non-contractual, pro bono basis.

Far from withholding information, EMIS has in fact proactively published its clinical data in the format of EMIS Open and made this information available to support a number of projects demonstrating the interoperability of different primary care systems. Very few other primary care providers offer this facility.

EMIS fully supports the aims of the NPfIT and we are disappointed that our genuine concerns about key aspects of the proposed contracts have not yet been resolved, despite extensive efforts on our side.
